The Reason Your Dog Barks Too Much
Dogs bark, that is what they do. That is how they communicate everything. Dogs bark when they are hungry, see another dog, want to go outside, or they are happy. It is perfectly normal for your dog to bark from everyday occurrences. However, they should not always be barking when the mail gets delivered, a person walks by your house, or they see a squirrel in the yard. So, if your dog is constantly barking there may be some underlying issues. Reasons they may be barking too much include:
- Alert Barking: Dogs bark a lot of the time because they are paying attention to things going on in and around your home. They have natural instincts to protect their home from intruders. So, if they are barking at everyone who is passing by, other dogs being walked, and cars driving by, they are simply trying to protect their home. Providing distractions to keep them from being so alert to the things around them is the easiest thing you can do to stop them from alert barking so much. Playing music, providing toys, and adding blinds to your windows are a few examples of what you can do to limit barking.
- Boredom: Dogs need to experience stimulation too. You cannot just leave them alone in the house all day. They need to be walked, played with, and let outside. They need to be able to let out excess energy and stimulate their minds. Boredom causes them to get frustrated and thus bark.
- Stress: Dogs cannot tell us how they are feeling, so they bark. Stress is a common reason they bark. When they seem to be barking at nothing, pay attention to what they are doing. If they are barking while standing near the backyard door, they may need to relieve themselves.
